Meta Address

ePosition can be applied as unique identifier for not only IoT objects, but also meta address for personal and public use. Each unique ePosition id points to a physical location address.

For example:

city_hall#seoul.com => 31 Taepyeongno 1(il)-ga, Jung-gu, Seoul, South Korea (GPS : 37.565682, 126.977108)

seoul_sinchon#starbucks.com = >18–55, Changcheon-dong, Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, South Korea (GPS : 37.556620, 126.937087)

Why would you use ePosition as meta address identifier?

Flexibility

The biggest reason that ePosition is suitable as a meta address identifier is that flexibility to changes. Addresses of a person, company, and organization are very likely to be changed in a long time scope.

Most of the current online systems like B2C web services or public sector database keep location data in a form of physical address. For this reason, it is nearly impossible to track all the data of one’s address and update it accordingly when there is change.

These are problems so common in our daily lives. Old shipping address in an e-commerce service, wrong mail deliveries of bills, dislocated government office addresses, etc..

These problems can be solved by using ePosition as meta address identifier. If address is stored in the ePositon server, which connects the physical location address through DNS server, then one change in the ePosition server will be sufficient to keep everything up-to-date.

Not only people will save time and have convenience, but also governmental and corporate organizations will save a lot of money and resources for maintaining their databases.

Compatibility

ePosition is applicable for both changes in the address system and worldwide compatibility.

For example, Korea has adopted a new address system recently, which has been huge chaos for all people. Since government recommends to use the new system, organizations are listing both types of address, which makes it twice confusing for people to find the location.

Because ePosition can store address in multiple format with GPS location, it can deal with any kind of address system of the world, even outside the scope of traditional address like indoor navigation or maritime locations.

Sharing & Privacy

Due to the simplicity of ePosition address, sharing address will be easier. In the future, ePosition URI protocol will enable web browsers to access ePosition address just like URLs.

Moreover, since physical location address must be accessed through the DNS server, the owner of ePosition address can check who is browsing his address and restrict access to any stranger. This ensures more privacy than providing physical location address to other servers.

Machine Readable

For some locations, address-to-GPS geocoding can be very tricky and slow. Rather, ePosition address can be passed to a third-party app (such as Google Map or Uber Taxi), which can easily obtain the user’s location through ePosition’s server.

Machine readability is one of the most important advantages of ePosition address, since in the near future of Internet of Things(IOT), information should be shared and comprehended by both humans and machines.

Now ePosition is currently patented and is on research by a startup called ePosition Korea, working with researchers from Korea Advanced Institute of Science & Technology (KAIST).
